updated: 7:14 pm PDT
On June 25, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM PDT, we began observing an increased number of 403 errors in our logs. Investigation revealed the source to be a WAF ACL rule from our AWS-managed Fortinet rule set. A recent Fortinet update had inadvertently flagged legitimate traffic as malicious. To restore normal traffic flow, we temporarily disabled the rule and consulted with AWS support, who confirmed the issue and recommended changing the rule action from "block" to "count" as a temporary mitigation. We are actively working with Fortinet support to understand the root cause, expected fix timeline, and obtain a full incident report.

We have followed up with AWS Support, who confirmed that Fortinet has addressed the underlying issue. The affected rule has been re-enabled, and we have verified that legitimate traffic is no longer being inadvertently blocked. We will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure stable and secure operations.
